AMU's Horner Crushes Tactical Div. Field
At USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Daniel Horner of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit left no doubt as to who is the top Multi-Gun shooter in the country as he crushed a field of nearly 85 shooters to win the Tactical Division title at the 2009 U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) Multi-Gun National Championships.

Horner dominated the match by winning nine of the 12 stages and posting a final score of 2280.2351, more than 356 match points ahead of his nearest challenger, second place shooter Glenn Shelby of Aztec, N.M.

“The Army Marksmanship Unit is known for making champions and Daniel’s dominating win at this year’s Nationals proves that the AMU is still in the championship business, and business is good,” said Dave Thomas, executive director for USPSA.

Rounding out the top five in the Tactical division were Shelby in second with 1923.2727 and two stages wins. In third place was Team SureFire’s Barry Dueck of Fountain Valley, Calif. shooting a final score of 1877.0010. Horner’s AMU teammate, Robby Johnson, took fourth with 1851.7744 points a one stage win, and Jared Milinazzo claimed fifth with 1834.0690.

The Multi-Gun National Championships were held October 22-25 at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club in Boulder City, Nevada and drew 135 top shooters from around the country to test their skills in a shooting format that utilizes the rifle, shotgun and pistol.

Multi Gun Divisions added for Heavy Metal

There was an error on the Multi Gun application which may have caused some confusion. 'Heavy Metal' was listed next to the categories, although it is not a category. We intended it to be an 'add' for the division - If a shooter was signed up for Tactical, for instance, and also circled 'Heavy Metal', we would place them in the Heavy Metal Tactical Division.

Suffice it to say, this hasn't worked very well at all. If you are signed up to shoot the 2009 DPMS USPSA Multi Gun Nationals and would like to shoot in either Heavy Metal Tactical or Heavy Metal Standard(Limited) Divisions, please email Matt Pickhardt in order to get your entry changed. We can also make this change at registration, but for efficiency's sake it is better to switch as soon as possible. The updated application is available on the left sidebar as well as below:

More Multi-Gun Updates

The RM and MD have worked hard to adjust the schedule to prevent a late finish on the 7th, without pushing the staff beyond the breaking point. The revised squad matrix is available here. [pdf] Awards & Prizes have also been moved back out to the USSA range to allow for an earlier finish time. Please note that the new squad matrix has competitors shooting a full day schedule, rather than half days. We appreciate your patience while we worked this through.

This link will take you to USSA's info page regarding the match.

The Stages for the Multi-Gun match are done and available as a .PDF file Here. You can right-click on the link and choose 'Save target As' to download; left-clicking will open the file in your browser window. Use your browser's back button to return to this page.

Great news!

We have made arrangements with the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club to host the 2006 MultiGun Nationals. The Albany club is only an hour and a half from the Portland airport and approx 15 minutes from major hotels and restaurants; much closer than Bend. The layout of the shooting bays will allow easy access to the stages, with no anticipated problems with wind and blowing sand. The Albany Rifle and Pistol Club is excited to host the match, and meeting with the Executive Board was a true pleasure. New props, host club cooperation and easy travel access will all have impact on participation. Several other MultiGun matches have sold out quickly, be sure to get your applications in early!

3Gun Squadding

Squadding is now done for the 3Gun Nationals. You can view it here. The squad schedule is available here and on the right sidebar.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't call the office if you have a complaint or question about your squad placement. Drop me a line at kim@uspsa.org instead. I've tried to honor all submitted requests whenever humanly possible, but we have to keep the squads down to 10-11 in order to maintain the desired schedule. In the event that you were not placed on the squad you wanted, I've at least tried to get you on the same schedule. It's fun to make new friends! ;)

Squad change requests will not be entertained at registration, so please show up bearing that in mind and don't even ask. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing you on the range in a few weeks!

Heavy Metal

HEAVY METAL CATEGORY
Heavy Metal will be a category only of Limited Division. All ammunition must meet the major power factor floors for each firearm type. The following criteria has been established for firearms:
Pistol: .44 caliber minimum - magazines/cylinder may not be loaded with more than 8 rounds at start signal
Rifle: .308 caliber minimum - magazines may not be loaded with more than 20 rounds at start signal
Shotgun: 12 ga. minimum - Pump action only.

You may only enter one category. For instance, you may not enter as Senior and Heavy Metal both, you'll have to choose one. As there was no spot for this on the 3G registration forms you may email kim@uspsa.org to request this category be added to your entry, or make the request at registration.

Short Notes on 3Gun

UPDATE: Please note that I mistyped this entry a few days ago and said the awards would be on the 17th. THAT WAS INCORRECT. The match will be over and done with on the afternoon of the 16th, as stated in your confirmation packet. I apologize for any inconvenience this typo might have caused. I've fixed the error in the communication below.

The 3Gun match is nearly full; only a few slots remain. After those are claimed we will go to a wait list.

We will not be using the online squadding system for this match. I will begin squadding as soon as the match is filled, which we anticipate will be the end of the coming week.

The Range Map is available for your viewing pleasure here. (It's a pdf.)

Registration will be the afternoon of the 13th followed by a Shooter's Meeting. Awards will be the 16th. Please plan on being at the match from the 13th through the 16th.

Thanks!

3-Gun Update

Exciting things are happening in preparation for the 2005 3-Gun Nationals scheduled for October 13-16 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We’ve contracted with The Riviera to act as our local match hotel this year. This has turned out to be a great deal all the way around. As luck would have it, the PGA Tour is scheduled concurrently with our match, so rooms will be scarce for that weekend. In addition, we’ve secured a great rate for our members, which includes breakfast each morning for up to two guests per room. The room rate will be $75 a night Sun/Thurs and $85 a night Fri/Sat.

To make reservations, you may call the Riviera directly at 800-634-6753. Just be sure to tell them you’re coming in for the United States Practical Shooting Association/3-Gun Nationals and give them the following code: USPSA-05 to qualify for the special rates/breakfast deal. Yes, that is a code and yes, they will need the entire thing to give you the goods. Due to the high demand for rooms at this time, we were only able to get a limited number of rooms at this rate for that weekend, so make your reservations early.

We will also be posting a hyperlink here for those interested in making their reservations online as soon as the events coordinator at the hotel gets that to me.

In addition, the match schedule has been released and is as follows:

Thursday October 13th
Shooters Meeting: 6 PM at the range

Friday & Saturday October 14-15th
Shooting starts: 8 AM
Lunch break: 12-1
Shooting ends: 6 PM

Sunday October 16th
Shooting starts: 8 AM
Shooting ends: 2 PM
Final scores posted by 3:30 PM
Awards by 4:30 PM

This 12-stage, 275+ round match will be an exciting mixture of 3 rifle, 3 pistol, 3 shotgun, and 3 multi-gun stages you won’t want to miss. Entries are limited to the first 250 competitors on a first-come, first-serve basis and we’re already a third of the way full as of this writing.

Sign up now to secure your place in the match and check back here often for more updates.
